Jubilee Hall

Jubilee Hall is our new home in Little Sandhurst, Berkshire.

The building was originally constructed as a single storey Temperance Movement Hall. This was believed to have been around 1855, but we are not too sure, as details are a bit sketchy.

Presumably, here the followers of the anti-alcohol campaign could meet and consume soft beverages.

We believe that it was converted into private accommodation around 1887; hence the name celebrating Queen Victoria's jubilee. At some point, the name was changed to Farvane Cottage, but has since reverted to Jubilee Hall.

The upstairs rooms have been built into the roof with a mixture of gabled and flat roofed dormers. These didn't necessarily happen at the same time. There had been two particularly large rooms, but one has been divided into two (bedrooms 2 & 4) and the other has been divided to create the master bedroom and an en-suite shower room.

An extension on the west face forms the kitchen and downstairs loo. There is some usable loft space above this area, although access is currently limited.

There is a small wall that connects to the single garage, with a gate for access to the rear garden.

The front garden is mostly tarmac for car parking, surrounded by a shielding holly hedge.

The grounds of the house were once considerably larger. Most of it has long since been sold off and the surrounding three houses built on it.

The rear garden is south facing and is now a manageable size. It is mostly grass with a sloping hill up to the southwest corner, with a path and patio area outside the lounge.

The garden is bordered by trees to give a fair amount of privacy and there is a brick wall to separate it from the main road that runs up the side.
